You likely try your best and put in a lot of effort to make sure that your bird has access to good clean food at all times.
Unfortunately, the bird may start to poop in his food bowl sometime. This article is a look into why this may be happening:
Bird poops in food bowl:
We, humans, know that our poop and our food do not mix. Unfortunately, your bid may be mixing its poop and food by pooping in its food bowl.
Here is why this may be happening with your bird:
The bird is likely not trying to poop in its food bowl on purpose, this scenario may be happening because the bird happens to be sitting on its food bowl.
Birds in the wild poop anywhere they like, they can do this because their poop is nutritious to the plants and grasses they poop on, and, because their food contains seeds that will grow when pooped out.
So birds don’t have to worry about where they poop.
Birds in the wild also have different places to perch, this ensures that their feet don’t become sore from sitting on the same size perch, or branch, and ensure that their poop is spread all over.
This isn’t the case for your domesticated bird.
If your bird only has access to one perch then it may sit elsewhere if its feet get too tired of theone perch.
The bird may start to sit in the feed bowl and will simply poop and the poop will land in the feed bowl as a result.
What to do:
You can give your bird a smaller food bowl. One that she doesn’t fit into, and remove the large food bowl or at least remove the food from the larger food bowl.
This will keep the food and poop separate and will still allow the bird to sit in the food bowl.
You can also give the bird a variety of other perches to sit on, giving her other perches to sit on will give the bird more places to sit and this may just encourage her to stay out of the food bowl.
You can also try putting a smaller food bowl into the large food bowl that your bird is sitting in so she can still sit in this bowl while eating out of the smaller one.
You also have the option of giving the bird a covered food dish, the bird can sit in a covered food dish but she can still eat out of it when she needs to.
The bird’s food bowl may be her favorite place to sit. She may fight with you if you choose to remove it so be cautious when trying to do this.
