Do female budgies hump things?

Birds, your budgies included, will hump things, this humping is the bird’s way of masturbating and both male and female budgies will do this.
While it is more common for male budgies to hump things female budgies will do this as well.
The female will hump by squatting down on an object, toy, or perch and rubbing its cloaca against the object, toy, or perch.
Your bird will do this if it feels sexually stimulated or sexually frustrated, the bird will also do this if it is bored.
What to do:
If your bird is sexually frustrated and is starting to hump things you don’t have to do too much worrying, This is relatively normal, albeit odd, behavior.
If the bird is humping because it is bored then you may want to consider giving the bird new toys to play with and even switching the tv or radio on to entertain the bird.
Doing this will keep the bird engaged and the bird will forget about wanting to hump things.
You would also need to avoid touching the bird in a way that arouses it as this can cause the bird to want to hump. Avoid petting the bird on its rump, hind legs, and back.
Distracting the bird as soon as it starts doing this is also recommended. Reward the bird once it stops the action.
While the humping is not harmful to the bird, you do want to discourage or at the very least ignore this behavior in your birds.
Do not punish the bird for this behavior as the bird will not know why it is being punished.
If your bird does this on a regular basis then you may want to consider taking your bird to the vet for an examination.
