How to get a bird down from a high place:
Birds in high places can fly away never to be seen again, or, they can fly into your ceiling fan if they fly to a high place in your home.
Birds see high spaces as spaces of safety and high places allow the birds to see the area below and scan for predators, but this isn’t always safe for them.
You likely don’t want any of this to happen if you’re reading this article. This is what you can do about it:
Start off by calming down:
Birds are easily frightened so if you seem frantic or if it seems like you’re upset then the bird may get scared and fly away or fly into dangerous territory.
Thus, it is very important for you to take care and be very calm in this situation.
Offer it treats:
If it’s your bird that is stuck in a high place then you can offer the bird treats as a way to coax it into coming to you by its own will.
Pick treats that your bird likes, treats like cut-up fruits, sunflower seeds, apples, raisins, grapes, mealworms, berries, and cherries can all lure the bird to come to you.
If the bird is used to eating treats from your hand then you can carry the treats and hold your hand out to get the bird to come to you.
If the bird is not used to eating treats out of your hand then you can simply place the treats in a bowl and let the bird fly down
Go get the bird:
If the bird is comfortable with you then you can simply walk up a ladder and pick the bird up, and get it down.
Make sure that you are very calm when you do this, and also do this slowly so as not to startle the bird.
Talk to the bird in a calm and soft manner, the same way that you’d talk to a baby, when you go up and get it.
Leave the cage on the floor:
You can also get the bird to come down by bringing its cage.
The bird will desire to go back to the safety and comfort of its cage soon enough especially if there is food in there.
Leave the bird’s cage near it and leave the door open. Once the bird is inside carefully and slowly approach it and close the door.
What to avoid:
Avoid chasing the bird, this can cause it to fly away out of fear and you may never see your bird again if you do this.
