Why do parakeets rub their beaks together?
The longer you live and take care of your parakeets the more you’ll learn about the bird’s personality, behavior, and what they are trying to communicate to you.
A bird rubbing its beak against another bird’s beak is the birds way of communicating with each other. Here is why the birds do this:
Beak kiss:
The reason why your birds rub their beaks together is actually quite positive, it is called a beak kiss and is a friendly gesture that communicates affection between two birds.
This can happen with bonded mated pairs and it can happen with budgies that are simply very good friends.
The kissing between a mated pair is common and so is the kissing between two males but not so much between two female birds.
The females are the more temperamental birds, so female budgies are less likely to be friendly with other female budgies.
The kissing is also a major sign of trust as it takes a lot for budgies to let another budgie near its face, especially near the delicate area at the bird’s eyes.
The kiss is also a sign of friendliness and respect, this is why you will see two male budgies beak kiss. It is not solely a display of romantic affection between the two birds.
Two birds who are kissing may also nuzzle against each other faces and feed each other, this is another way of showing affection to each other, it shows that the budgies are trying to take care of each other.
What to do:
You don’t have to do anything if your budgies do this and you shouldn’t do anything if your budgies do this, this is a good thing and is a sign of a connection between your two birds.
Simply let the birds be and let the birds enjoy their moment.
