Why Does My Cockatiel Love My Feet? (1 Reason Why + What To Do)

We love our cockatiels, we love hanging around them, looking at them, and interacting with them.

These birds can love us too, or, they can love our feet. This can be weird for any cockatiel lover.

This article looks into why your cockatiel loves your feet

Why does my cockatiel love my feet?

While it may seem odd and strange for cockatiels to like feet so much this does sometimes happen, in fact, it can happen a lot.

Here is why your cockatiel likes your feet so much:

They see your feet as mates:

Cockatiels being in love with your feet is not so odd and happens to many.

Cockatiels can fall in love with random objects like their reflection, other birds, you, and even your feet.

This love for your feet can span many months and even years.

The birds don’t have a platonic love for your feet, the birds see your feet as mates and will want to be around your feet a lot.

The bird will show its love by leaning towards your feet, feeding your feet, singing to your feet as a way to woo them, and being very protective over your feet.

What to do:

This is not abnormal behavior but this may or may not be a behavior that you’d want your bird to continue.

You can either choose to let the bird be obsessed with your feet or you can try to stop this behaviour.

If the bird is obsessed with your feet, and you don’t mind, then you can leave the bird be and let it interact with your feet.

Each interaction may take around 5 to 10 minutes or even longer depending on your bird.

If you don’t like this behavior in your birds then you can try to discourage the bird from paying so much attention to your feet.

When the bird tries to interact with your feet you can move the bird away to show that you don’t approve of this behavior.

You can also give the bird something else to do when it tries to interact with your feet.

Wearing shoes, like sneakers or slippers, around your bird may also help stop this behavior.

Doing this will hopefully get the bird to forget about trying to mate with your feet.
