Why is my turtle swimming so fast?
You may be happy to see your pet turtle swimming around, but you may start to worry if you see the animal swimming too fast.
Here is why your pet turtle seems to be swimming so fast:
Chasing food:
In addition to the pellet and produce that you’re feeding your pet turtle, you may also be feeding the animal live prey, turtles love chasing and eating live prey.
Your turtle will enthusiastically and quickly swim to hunt their prey
Turtles need stimulation and they love chasing after live pretty, it’s a fun way to get their food and it is mentally stimulating for the animal.
They swim frantically when chasing food simply because it is a natural behavior for them.
What to do:
This behavior is very normal for turtles, they love enrichment and will swim fast, after live prey, at any chance they get.
You can add more enrichment to your pet’s route by floating objects like rubber ducks, or ping pong balls, in the tank for the animal to play with.
Tip: Only give turtles objects that are way too big to ingest.
