Sometimes trapping them or poisoning them with rat bait or rat poison can work. If you find mice in your house you will need to do your best to get rid of them ASAP. There are usually many more mice in your house than you think. You might have to call pets control services,

What is a natural way to get rid of mice?

If you have kids or animals then finding natural ways to get rid of mice will be the safest option.  Here are a few things you can do to get rid of your mouse problem in a safe and efficient way:

Instant potato flakes or powder: Simply sprinkle some of this stuff where you know there are mice and let the mice eat it up. After eating this food and drinking water the expanding flakes will cause the mouse’s stomach to expand and burst, the mouse will die instantly.

Kitty litter: Mice know that they are prey to many predators. They will run in the other direction if they sense that a predator, like a cat, is in the area. Place used tubs of kitty litter where mice frequent and this will repel the mice. This kitty litter is affordable and will keep your mice and rats away.

Natural predators: Natural predators like cats will catch and eat any mice they find, they are very good at this. This is an effective way to get rid of your mouse problem and get a cute pet at the same time. You can get a cat to get rid of your mouse problem or a barn owl. Predator urine granules like these also keep mice away, mice will smell the urine and flea the scene.

Onions: If you need an easy to access rat repellent then this is a great option. The scent will repel rats and ensure that they don’t come back. Safety tip: Onions are toxic to dogs and cats so only use if you don’t have these pets.

Plasterer of Paris and cocoa: Rats and mice love the taste of cocoa. Mix this in with plaster of paris and let it dry before you leave it out for rats to eat. The rats will eat it up then look for and drink water then die soon after the plaster sets.

Humane traps: This is an effective way to get rid of your mouse in a safe way. You can let the mouse out into the wild after trapping it. Lure the mouse into the trap, it will be able to get in but won’t be able to get to out. This trap is effective while still being humane.

Should I kill rats in my garden?

You should kill or at least try to repel rats from your garden. They pose a risk to your health and cause damage to your property. You don’t want these pests getting too comfortable in your garden.

Tip: If you do decide to kill the rats in your garden make sure you do not use rat poison. Rat poison is pretty strong stuff, if accidentally ingested by pets or children it can kill them. If ingested by human adults it can make humans very sick. Rather use non-lethal types of pest control to deal with your rat problem.  If you can you should rather call pest control to get rid of your rats or mice in a safe way.

Do mice come out during the day

Yes, mice do come out during the day, they are nocturnal. They prefer to be out at night when lights are low to minimise being caught by a predator. They also stay out of human sight, mice are scared of humans. Mice may sometimes come out during the day looking for food and water but this is not normal.
