The egg-laying process can sometimes bring out some odd behaviors in birds parakeets included. One of the odd egg-laying behaviors that birds do include laying eggs in the food bowl

This article looks into why parakeets lay eggs in the food bowl

Parakeet laid eggs in food bowl:

Birds will only lay eggs when they feel as though they have a suitable nesting site.

You may have given your bird a nest box to lay eggs in but if the bird sees it fit to lay her eggs in the food bowl rather then in the nest then the bird will lay in the food bowl.

The nest box that you give your bird may be private and safe but the food bowl may simply be more comfortable for the bird to lay her eggs in, or, may bird lay her eggs in the food bowl because she doesn’t have access to a nesting box.

Egg laying may be uncomfortable for birds who are just starting out, these birds may try to make the experience more comfortable by choosing to sit in their food bowl instead of perching on their perch.

This will lead to the eggs landing in the food bowl once laying starts.

Other odd places that your bird may choose to lay her eggs in include a cardboard box, clothes, or bed linens.

These birds are used to having to adapt and lay eggs in odd spaces, especially with urbanization. So them laying eggs in their food bowls shouldn’t be something to be alarmed at.

What to do:

The bird may have deemed it appropriate to lay eggs in its food bowl but mixing the birds food with the eggs, and the eggshells when the eggs hatch, will not be a good idea

You would need to remove the food bowl and give the bird a bowl where it can hatch the rest of her eggs.

The bird will lay about 4- 6 eggs before she decides to sit on them and fertilize them so you still have time to move the eggs before she decides to sit on them.

Don’t worry about touching the eggs, the bird will not disown the eggs if a human touches them, especially if she is used to and comfortable with you.
