Occasionally birds slam into windows or perch on ledges and windowsills. Over the years this has garnered many practical and mystical beliefs as to what it means. It may even peck at the window glass out of sheer curiosity or testing if there really is something there.

Will a bird die if it flies into a window?
While most birds don’t die having collided with a window, what matters is the speed at which they were going, the impact and how high from catch point they were. A bird may become stunned and startled having slammed into a window, if it is high up without anywhere to break its immediate fall then it could plummet to its death.
Often the impact of hitting the window isn’t what directly kills the bird so much as the shock and aftereffects. A hard hit will stun the bird even giving it a heart attack of sorts. While this is happening, it may fall from heights and slam into the ground which is the cause of actual death.
Also if the glass isn’t sturdy enough, the shattering splinters and shards can chop and slash the bird to death.

Much has been said about birds being spiritual messengers. Fact or fiction remains unsaid. Yet the lore and beliefs, spread across many countries around the world, make it a hard topic to discount.
A bird pecking on your window can have the meaning of telling you to be alert, warning of incoming obstacles or change. Even the type of bird following you could be a message of prosperity, happiness, a kindred spirit or of more dark and dire issues like illnesses and death. Circling birds could be passing the message of rains, climate or weather change and even time of day. Birds have been believed to be spiritual messengers.
