Why Is My Budgie Flying Low And Shaking? (1 Reason Why + What To Do)

Many potential bird owners will choose to raise budgies.

These birds are beautiful, and are great companions. However, just as with any other pet, they have their fair share of problems.

One of the problems that you may notice in your budgie is the bird flying low and shaking. This article explores why this happens.

Why is my budgie flying low and shaking?

Flying is an integral part of your bird’s life.

If your bird starts having issues with flying, like flying low, or having other issues, like shaking, you’d understandably be worried.

Here is why your bird may be flying low and shaking:

Sickness:

Sickness in your budgie will negatively affect the bird’s behavior.

Flying low and shaking is an example of behavior changes that you’ll see in a sick budgie.

The bird may fly low when it is sick because it has low energy and is exhausted.

When ill, with a bacteria or any other foreign entity, the bird’s body will initiate a shivering response.

This response will raise the bird’s body temperature. The raised body temperature is what fights off the illness.

While these two signs may indicate that your bird is sick, you can’t conclude that your budgie is sick just by its low-flying and shivering

Looking for other signs of sickness will confirm that the bird is sick and will also point to what the bird is sick with.

Other signs of a sick bird include discharge from the eyes or nares, a change in droppings, a loss of appetite, labored breathing, and fluffed-up feathers.

What to do:

If you suspect that your budgie is sick then veterinary help for your budgie is needed.

Keeping your bird isolated while you wait to take the bird to the vet is recommended.

Make sure that the cage that you’re keeping your sick bird in is comfortable, is in a warm but not too warm room, and make sure that the bird has access to its own food and water in isolation.
