You may be wondering whether budgies sit on their eggs at night, this article looks into it
Do budgies sit on their eggs at night?
Not only do your birds incubate their eggs during the day but the birds will also incubate their eggs at night, and they will incubate their eggs all night at that.
If the egg, and the contents of the egg, the growing chick, is left alone without the warmth of the mother or the father then the egg will die.
If there is no warmth on the eggs for too long then they will get too cold and will stop growing and the chick inside will die. This is why they have to be kept warm all day.
The eggs also need to be kept warm all night. You’ll usually see the female budgie sitting on her eggs at night while she is sleeping.
The male will usually spend more time sitting on the eggs during the day than the night.
That being said, the female budgie can’t sit on her eggs all of the time, she needs breaks, her male companion will help with this.
The male will not only go out and find food to feed the female during nesting, he will also protect her if a threat gets too close, and he will also sit on the eggs when he needs to.
When the female is tired she will get up off of the nest and fly around and stretch her legs to get some exercise in, she may also take a drink during this time.
The male will sit on the eggs during this time and they will switch when she gets back. This setup allows both birds to sit on the eggs and still allows both birds to get up and eat, stretch, and relax.
If the birds don’t sit on the eggs at night then the eggs may not make it, they need to be sat on pretty much 24/7
